Canon has announced the PowerShot A480 digital compact camera at 15-Jan-09. The Canon PowerShot A480 replaced its predecessor - PowershotA70 which was twenty five percent larger in size. It flags of a new era in digital photography as Canon launched a 10 mega pixel camera with the word “fun” in the title, thus signifying that it’s meant for the non-technical end user. The A480 has been packed with endless features, yet it’s very simple to operate. It’s presented to the end user as the most advanced one-stop photography solution with an added option of recording video clips in its price range. The A480 runs on Canon’s DIGIC 3 processor that superbly reproduces color, delivers photographs of an extremely high quality and it also utilizes path breaking technologies such as motion and face detection technologies.

Usage:

The Canon PowerShot A480 has a simplified button layout, with special individual buttons mode, playback and zoom. It has an easy user interface and is easy to carry along as well as to operate. The 3.3x optical zoom allows for the flexible framing of shots while up to 4x digital zoom allows the user to zoom in afterwards. It has a pre-programmed two or ten second timer, however users are allowed to change the timer seconds as per their desire. Yes, it does have a USB port which transfers your photographs or videos clips at a speed of 480 Megabits per second. Canon’s face detection technology is capable of detecting up to 9 faces per scene and adjusts the expose, focus white balance and flash settings for the best results with skin tones that look natural. With Canon’s Motion Detection Technology you’ll never ruin another photo again - due to the accidental shaking of the camera or due to the sudden movement of the subject. Thus it minimizes blur, while maximizing the photo quality. The A480 corrects red eye problems in both playback and at the time of shooting. If this wasn’t enough, the safety FE prevents blow-out at the time of using the flash. It can be plugged into your computer’s USB port as well as to your television (both PAL and NTSC televisions are supported) through AV out.

The Canon PowerShot A480 has been attractively designed and easy to hold. It is a compact 10 mega pixel camera, weighing

only 140 grams. Its dimensions are as follows 3.6 x 2.4 x 1.2 in (92 x 62 x 31 mm). It has a 2.5 inch LCD screen with an inbuilt image inspection device that checks the focus. It has a minimum resolution of 640×480 and a maximum of 3648×2736.

Settings:

The Canon PowerShot A70 provides the user 15 different shooting modes which allows the user to immediately get the right common scenes settings. The options for scene modes provided are - sunset, indoor, foliage, kids and pets, beach, snow, long shutter, super macro, fireworks, night snapshot, portrait, aquarium. One can also change the option to the movie mode and easily record video clips having a rate of up to 30 frames per second. One can easily upload the photographs and video clips taken to the web or share it via the 2.5 inch LCD screen. The white balance is pre-set to auto, however one can change to - cloudy, fluorescent, daylight, tungsten, incandescent, or to manual; as per their requirements. The ISO sensitivity is also pre-set to the automatic mode. The video is saved in the AVI format, using the motion JPEG technology and the audio in WAVE files.

Memory and Battery:

Since the PowerShot A70 derives its power from AA batteries, users don’t need to find a power source, which is perfect for wilderness trips. However an optional AC adapter kit ACK800 is provided. Storage options offered are - internal / SDHC / SC / MMC / MMCplus. A 32 MB memory card is provided along with the camera, however users are strongly advised to purchase a memory of at least 1 GB (the higher the better) along with the camera since the photographs taken are of a very high quality it tends to take up space. Don’t get too worried about storage; extra memory is pretty cheap. Alternatively, you could simply upload the pictures to you computer on a regular basis. That way, you can store all the extra pictures from you camera on your PC, and therefore, free up tons of space on your camera.

When you compare technical specifications and real datas, results will affect you. In these review results, generally, 25%-30% deviation can be seen. But in DIWA labs we realized that, result of appraisals nearly equal to specifications. In ISO 80 review, ISO 71 value has been obtained as a result Another In all reviews, ISO values has given nearly equal results to real values. Only in ISO 1600 review a 6 percent of loss has been recorded. Mostly, In this reviews most of results have deviations which based on manufacturer’s image signal/ noise ratio fix needing. However, there isn’t a situation in this camera model like we mentioned.

Canon PowerShot SX10 IS Objective

Canon PowerShot SX10 IS digital camera’s 20x optical zoom objective has a small stepped f/2.8 – f8.0 diaphragm interval. In DIWA lab, one of the reviews is about centered and edging sharpness. In 28 mm wide angle with f/2.8 diaphragm value, blur in photo have seen, in f/4.0 centered sharpness is great. But in telephoto scenes edging sharpness is not as well as centered sharpness. In highest diaphragm value (f/8.0) little blur has been seen clearly. On the other hand, review results showed zoom function have a wonderful performance.
